Questions? I’m here to help! Here are some common ones.

How long is each therapy session?

I generally do a 45-minute session unless 60-minutes is clinically indicated (for example, exposure sessions in ERP) or 60-minutes is your preference. Because I don’t bill insurance, I don’t have to justify a 60-minute session beyond it being what you and I decide to do.

RODBT skills group is a weekly 90-minute session.

What happens during the first therapy session?

That will vary a little depending on what you are seeing me for. Each specialty has an intake process specific to it. It will be some version of reviewing the general intake form you completed before the first session, asking any follow-up questions that will help me understand you better, assessing for and diagnosing the specific problem, and giving an overview of how treatment will go.

How do I know if I need therapy?

I have addressed who is a good candidate on each specialty page. If what I wrote speaks to you, you could most likely benefit from the approach the page describes. But if you’re still not sure, that’s why I offer the consultation call. I’m happy to help you figure out what you need.

How often will I need to come to therapy?

Once a week is the standard and that is what most people do to start. Some people see me every other week or less frequently. We’ll discuss what makes the most sense for your life.

How long will I need to come to therapy?

Each specialty has a typical number of sessions. Check out the specialty pages for specifics.

How much do therapy sessions cost?

My fee is $175 per 45-minute session and $200 per 60-minute session.

RODBT skills group is $60 per session plus two $175 intakes.

Do you take insurance for therapy?

I am not in-network with any insurance companies. You will pay me directly after each session. There are options for pursuing reimbursement from your insurance carrier. I’ve had clients have good luck with a company called Reimbursify. Click here for more information. If you go to my home page, you’ll find a widget that allows you to check your benefits or file a claim.

How do I seek reimbursement from my insurance company for therapy sessions?

I can provide you with a document called a superbill that has all of the information your insurance will want to determine if and how much they reimburse. Success varies from plan to plan and that will be completely between you and your insurance. If you are covered by Medicare (traditional or private), I will not provide a superbill. Because I have opted out of Medicare, it will be a private contract between you and me. Medicare does not reimburse for out-of-network care.

Do you have evening and weekend therapy sessions available?

No. My business hours are Monday-Friday 9-5.

Where do therapy sessions take place?

My practice is 100% online. I do not have a physical office. I use a HIPAA-compliant version of Google Meet.

Who do you work with?

I only work with adults (18+).

What if therapy isn't working?

I do my best to provide the most evidence-based treatment for the specific issue. Should you not get the results you are looking for, I might seek consultation from a more experienced provider or help you find a different provider that can meet your needs.

What next?

I know it can feel like a big step to call a therapist, but I’ll make it easy. We’ll spend 15-minutes on the phone and I’ll let you know how or if I can help. If I am not the right person, I’ll do my best to get you to the right person.
